About Senator Therese Terlaje
Senator Therese M. Terlaje is currently the Speaker of the 37th Legislature and Chairperson for the Committee on Health, Land, Justice and Culture. The Committee oversees all matters related to health care, public health, social welfare, sustainable land management, issues relating to justice and legal affairs, and cultural affairs.

She was elected into the 34th Guam Legislature in 2016 and served as the Vice Speaker and Chairperson for the Committee on Culture and Justice.  During the 35th Guam Legislature, she served as the Chairperson for the Committee on Health, Tourism, Historic Preservation, Land and Justice. During the 36th Guam Legislature, served as the Speaker and Chairperson for the Committee on Health, Land, Justice and Culture.

Senator Therese Terlaje is a Chamorro, born and raised in the village of Yona. She received her Juris Doctorate in 1989 from the UCLA School of Law, holds a Biology degree from Creighton University in Nebraska, and is a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, class of 1981.
Prior to being inaugurated into the 34th Guam Legislature, Therese worked for 27 years as a small business owner, an attorney, and as professor at the University of Guam. She was counsel in the cases that forced the government to implement the Chamorro Land Trust Commission and the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Senator Therese Terlaje has passed legislation to increase accountability and fairness in our government, strengthen protections for victims of family violence, support the addition of therapeutic treatment courts, assist the Guam Veteran Affairs Office’s with outreach for the Veterans registry, and provided additional resources and direct assistance to our vulnerable and working families. She has also fought for the protection of our land and oceans from exploitation and contamination and has stood firm against injustice.
